The total number of MasterCard and Maestro contactless transactions in Europe passed the one billion mark for the first time in 2015. This was an increase of 150 per cent from the previous year, with contactless payments now accounting for more than 13 per cent of in store transactions across Europe. The new data, released by MasterCard, also reveals that the number of cards, mobile phones or other tap devices rose by 121 per cent. Coupled with this, the total MasterCard and Maestro spend on contactless transactions was up by 183 per cent year-on-year.
