The number of consumers making contactless payments via their mobile handsets is expected to reach 148 million this year, according to a new study from Juniper Research. The research suggests that the launch of Apple Pay and Samsung Pay has boosted the market, accounting for almost 70 per cent of new customers. Evidence of this can be seen in China, where the recent arrival of Apple Pay saw nearly 40 million payment cards registered to the service within 24 hours.
